Franklin Township is located in York County, Pennsylvania. As of a 2000 census, Franklin Township served as a home for nearly 4,600 residents and was made up of an area cover 19.2 square miles. The area that is now Franklin Township was first settled in 1760 and was formed in 1809 from part of Monaghan Township. The Township was created from a petition for a new township. In its beginning days, Franklin Township's residents had to be alert for Indian raids and wild animals.

Within the township of Franklin is the borough of Franklintown, Pennsylvania. Not to be confused with Franklintown located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Franklintown was settled in 1813 and officially incorporated in 1869.
